Vision
Build Lab fosters OLIN’s ability to design and craft landscapes that meet the highest level of ecological and social performance.
We have expertise in innovative as well as time-tested construction practices and we use this expertise to support project teams and to train and educate design staff. Through Durable Design Workshops, Build Lab critically examines built works, creating opportunities to improve OLIN’s practice and to highlight challenges inherent in designing landscapes to survive and thrive in cities. The BUILD Book, an internally curated design guide, captures decades of experience in landscape design and construction — in the form of material specifications, details and recommendations — and makes that knowledge accessible to all OLIN designers. Build Lab also hosts regular staff training events in topics such as construction administration, contract documents, tree tagging and material selection.
