OLIN Labs has been featured in a new article published in Landscape Journal. "Practice-Based Research Now: Purpose, Approach, and a Proposition", highlights several practices investing in research activities that extend beyond project‐centered work. The publication was led by the Landscape Architecture Foundation, and grew out of roundtable discussions organized by LAF, with the following participants and co-authors.
Megan Barnes, Senior Program Manager, Landscape Architecture Foundation
Anya Domlesky, Director of Research and Associate Principal, SWA XL Lab
Allison Harvey, Principal, OJB
Lisa Hwang, Design Data and Metrics Specialist, LandDesign
Eric Kramer, Principal, Reed Hilderbrand
Allyson Mendenhall, Chief Practice Resources Officer, Sasaki
Margaret Plumb, Director of DW Legacy Design®, Design Workshop
Rebecca Popowsky, Research Associate, OLIN
The article, published in November 2024, includes personal statements from the authors, a synthesis of interviews and surveys from numerous design firms beyond those represented in the round-table, and highlights the various methods, motivations, models, and funding, that enable research to be prioritized alongside practice.
The group was also featured in a webinar on the same topic, available here: https://www.lafoundation.org/resources/2024/11/practice-based-research-now
