Soilless Soil Update: AeroAggregates Site Visit
Continuing their exploration into the life cycle of glass waste in and around Philadelphia, OLIN Labs Associate Rebecca Popowsky, UPenn Eco-Reps, Samantha Friskey, Karen Chi and Richard Ling, and PennDesign/McHarg Center research assistant, Kate Trosman, visited the incredible Aero Aggregates processing facility in Edystown, PA to see how they turn single-stream post-consumer glass into ultra-lightweight foamed glass aggregates. Aero has provided the Soilless Soil research team with crushed glass cullet for use in the team’s ongoing horticultural study of Soilless growing media. They have also provided a valuable window into the logistics and economics of the glass recycling industry in our region.
