Land management at scale envisions a network of multi-benefit lands that contributes to decarbonization, justice, job opportunities, and the fight against climate change. It does not call for landscape architects to become experts on the best management practices for farms, forests, pasture, or other major land uses. However, it does emphasize the mediating role of landscape architects, who can craft connections around common ground such as the notion that an equitable future relies on the environmental, cultural, and economic value of natural and working lands.

How to get started? This thinking can inform and be informed by several ongoing initiatives. Some notable examples include 30x30, which has plans at state and national levels, and Justice 40, a federal program.
